Amarachi my Sunshine - Part 2

Amarachi cried herself to sleep. When she woke up, she had a splitting headache. She took rather too many glasses of wine and her hangover was her nemesis. She went upstairs to take a shower. While she undressed herself, she could recall the last time she called Uchenna, Nonso's best friend: ''Uche, biko! Help me reach your friend. He is not picking my calls and my texts have remained unanswered. I just want a friendly chat with him. That's all! Uche, please! ''. Amarachi was desperate. ''No problem.'' Uchenna said reassuringly.  ''I will try to talk some sense into him. But Amy, let me understand something. Why are you anxious to hear from him? Some years ago, you couldn't even stand his very sight. Where is this sudden desire for reunion coming from? Amarachi, as I said, I will talk to him but I can't promise any change of attitude. Have a great day.''

In her solace, while she was showering, Amarachi answered that question Uchenna left rhetorical. ''Where is this sudden desire for reunion coming from?'' She remembered: Wedding cards! They were posted everywhere in social media. #NonsoIjeoma2015 was trending for days. Their pre - wedding pictures became a constant threat to her peace of mind. ''How could another woman make him happy? Is she behind his newly adopted confidence?''  The couple's extravagant baby showers became a subject of discussion in the streets of Enugu. She couldn't come to terms with the fact that Nonso had recorded an impressive progress in his life and she was no part of it.

Amarachi used to be his sweetheart. After graduating, Nonso worked as a typist in a business center in campus. Amarachi would usually patronise his services in order to type her assignment and project works. Nonso was a reserved, quiet and shy fellow but very meticulous and proficient. From her assignments, he knew that she was a Business Administration student who wished to specialize in Finance. He initially found it tough to talk to her and focused his gaze on the screen of his laptop whenever she was around. But her melodious voice when she would say : ''Put comma here! Remove the exclamation mark from there! Nonso should I add a chart after this paragraph? '' was sufficient for his fantasy, a possible ''together'' to find a resting place in his mind.

Amarachi noticed. She wasn't stupid. She noticed his subtle admiration for her. But to her, he was just adding to the list of boys who lust for her. As a smart girl that she was, she took advantage of his unmerited kindness. He would type for free, edit for free, spiral- bind for free, photocopy for free. In exchange for what? Her company.

They would discuss at length. After working hours, his small - spaced shop became a cave. Their cave. A zone where untold secrets were shared and forbidden thoughts were voiced out. He was enamored by how young she was and  yet so ambitious and full of vigor to materialize her plans. She was in her early 20s and she already knew the best university that would offer a top class MBA in Finance. Each time she came into his center,  he would swallow hard and say '' Amarachi my Sunshine''

And she? She was enchanted by his attention, his thoughtful gestures, his listening ear. He was different. He would caress not in the nasty way that her coursemates would. He would touch her decently, in a manner that inspired support, care and an ''I am here for you'' sensation. He might have been a typist. But his Bsc in civil engineering certainly did a lot of good in his intellects. She was a die hard sapiosexual and he was a proper gentleman.

But she threw it all way. She jettisoned deeply rooted in a careless manner. A manner that Nonso would never forgive.

The bell rang. Twice. It was a sound that finally pushed her to stop the water from running wastefully. That bell snapped her away from her pool of regrets. She decided to go downstairs. She wasn't expecting anyone, so she losely tied a towel around herself. When she opened the door, she was taken aback. She was speechless. He was the last person she expected to see in her doorstep. ''Nonso'' she finally exclaimed. Nonso replied expressionessly and authoritatively : ''Put on some clothes. We need to talk''

Our dear readers, what did Amarachi do to make Nonso run out of patience? What was a married man and father of two doing at Amarachi's doorstep? Reunite? Reconcile? Rekindle? Punish?
